Listen: Yuna continues slayin’ with “Lanes”, her third single off upcoming album ‘Chapters’!

HOT on the heels of her new  for “Crush” , Yuna is back again with her third cut off highly-anticipated forthcoming album Chapters. Having already dropped two major collaborations including a lead single produced by legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premiere, Yuna takes her plans for world domination even further with “Lanes”.

Formerly known for her minimal indie-pop, recent efforts have seen the Malaysian songstress delve into the realm of hip-hop and R&B. “Lanes” continues this leg of her musical journey — amidst deep 808s, airy synths and punchy snares, a vulnerable but firm Yuna laments being mistreated by a lover.

Elements of trap and electro propel the record as Yuna’s roaming melodies float seamlessly — bringing to mind the sound of an era ruled by Destiny’s Child, Ashanti and TLC.

Her vocals are also notably different on this record — straying away from her trademark sultriness, Yuna reveals a side never before heard, one with distinctly more power and soul.

She claims adamantly, “If this is love I don’t want it, if this is love you can keep it”, laying down the law and setting the record straight for someone she’s ready to leave.

We all know that Yuna has always had a penchant for presenting mood and emotion in an instantly relatable manner.

Lately however, she drips confidence, her sound all the more potent. Based on all three releases from Chapters, there’s clear growth in her artistry, and even persona as Malaysia’s best-known popstar of the modern era.

Yuna will be releasing Chapters on 20 May 2016 under international label Verve Music. Boasting features from global icons such as Usher to indie darlings like Jhene Aiko — we’re really excited for this collaboration in particular — Yuna’s latest LP could very well solidify her reputation as Malaysia’s queen of neo-soul.
