…AND TIME STOPS.

by Yati Society VampireMarch 28, 2016

LOCAL artist Fizjedar‘s HIGH jolts back to a time of national mishap, precisely in 2014, when two Malaysia Airlines planes failed to land safe and sound. Bringing viewers back to the airport during those fateful moments, HIGH is a tribute and an eulogy for those who passed and went missing in the tragedy.

MH370 was a scheduled international passenger flight that disappeared on 8 March while flying from KLIA, Malaysia to Bejing, China with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board. Subsequently, MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed on 17 July after being shot down, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew with it.

Since then, netizens over the world have been forced to cope with conspiracy theories and assumptions obtained via social media and mainstream media.

HIGH is a series of studies into aviation, tragedy, and honour over 25 exhibits featuring mixed media and house paint on canvas. Bangsar-based artist Hafiz Hajeedar initiated research for the project in June 2014, and delivered his tribute in May 2015.

One particularly large piece by the artist evokes the memory of entering a waiting plane while bearing the uncertainty of the future. Elsewhere, additional pieces by Ameer Hakim and Nikki Iman contribute to the theme at hand.

Fizjedar is an independent artist who primarily works with visual art. Active since 2008, he previously exhibited at Sepang International Circuit, Starhill Gallery and Publika. HIGH is a continuation of HIGHER, which previously took place at Bangsar Sports Centre in 2015 with Daphne Iking as a host.

HIGH took place at Minut Init from 19 – 26 March 2016.
