Singer-songwriter Yuna is currently working on her follow-up to 2016’s critically-acclaimed Chapters. In a video message for Johorean arts and culture festival Iskarnival Kool, the local star revealed that she is in the process of recording her sixth studio album following Decorate, Terukir Di Bintang, Yuna, Nocturnal and Chapters.
“I am currently recording my fourth album and hopefully it’ll be out in the summer of 2018,” explained Yuna in the video sent to the festival team. “Right now I’m in Los Angeles; I’ve been going to recording sessions, writing, meeting new producers and writers… It’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun.”
Chapters ended 2015 by garnering highly positive mentions from major international publications. It also found its way to #7 on Billboard’s Best R&B Albums of 2016: Critic’s Picks, and #13 on Rolling Stones Magazine’s Best R&B Albums of 2016 lists. The album spawned international hit “Crush (feat. Usher)” while its tracks have collectively generated over 50 million streams on YouTube.
Yuna additionally spoke about her coming live performance — her second in Malaysia this year.
“I’m also excited to take a break to come home this November for my birthday and meet my family and friends and be at Iskarnival Kool!”
The talented musician will play a free, 50-minute set at Puteri Harbour during Iskarnival Kool — the first of two celebrations tying into Iskandar Puteri’s city status. Iskarnival Kool will witness Yuna sharing the stage with local legend Sheila Majid and labelmate Bil Musa on day two of the festival, while Johorean ska-punk outfit Plague of Happiness and Indonesian rockers Kelompok Penerbang Roket are scheduled to headline day one.
“I’m excited to see all of my Johorean fans, I haven’t seen them in a while so I hope they will all come out to watch me perform,” the singer added.
Yuna last performed during Lovelifest, an arts festival organised by her own label in March this year.
