Academy Award Winner ‘Ida’ to be Screened Locally in Conjunction with European Union Film Festival

by Tania KnuttDecember 8, 2015

Some called this film “riveting and sublime”, some say “exquisite” and “absolutely stunning”. Ida, a film directed by Pawel Pawlikowski was the first Polish film to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language back in 2015 and you now have a chance to see it.

The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and Kelab Seni Filem Malaysia will be hosting a screening of Ida on 9 December at HELP College of Arts and Technology — best part: admission is free!

The film was greatly acclaimed for its “compact masterpiece” and was noted as an “eerily beautiful road movie”. The film has also been said to “contain a cosmos of guilt, violence and pain”, even if some critics were displeased that certain historical events (the German occupation of Poland, the Holocaust and Stalinism) were not brought up.

Ida was also widely acclaimed by critics, who praised the film for its writing and cinematography. Ida was previously selected as the Best Film of 2014 by the European Film Academy and also as Best Film Not In the English Language of 2014 by British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Ida will be screened on 9 December 2015, 8.00 pm at HELP College of Arts and Technology. Look out for more updates and screenings on their official EUFF page, EUFF IDA page or page.
