Listening to classical music today has become the aural equivalent of eating your vegetables. Most of us probably grew up understanding its significance, but likely don’t enjoy its consumption as much as the grown-ups do.

PIANIST Tengku Irfan was eleven when he performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. It saw him improvising his own cadenzas for all three movements in Beethoven‘s Piano Concerto in E Flat. It was very impressive for a child, and it earned him a lifetime around the world composing, playing and learning music.
