Singaporean Gets Chosen As Malaysian Celebrity Ambassador For Ant-Man, But It’s All Cool Because We’re Talking Aaron Aziz

by Tania KnuttJuly 13, 2015

Celebrity ambassadors are true leaders in the entertainment industry, representing the fields of film, television, music and many more. But have you ever wondered what these guys really do?

As we found out from UNICEF, celebrity ambassadors actually demonstrate leadership in their professions and serve as positive role models through their work.

With the release of Ant-Man in cinemas in a few days, Walt Disney Studios appointed local celebrity Aaron Aziz as our very own Ant-Man celebrity ambassador for Malaysia. Given Walt Disney’s decision, some may be puzzled as Aaron is merely a permanent resident of Malaysia as reported by Kosmo! on the 24th of June.

To be fair though, he has done quite a number of Malaysian movies; Evolusi KL Drift, KL Gangster and Ombak Rindu for example has won him awards and gained him a local fanbase.

DSC00011Anyway, here are some reasons why it’s okay that Aaron Aziz is Malaysia’s Ant-Man ambassador even if his passport clearly states that he’s Singaporean.

1. Ant-Man is a super hero in his daughters’ eyes, and much like Aaron who himself has a daughter, Ant-Man does this on a daily basis.

Isn’t it heartwarming to know that he’s doing it all for his daughter? Who wouldn’t want an almost-superhero as their father?

2. Aaron Aziz has always been viewed as a positive celebrity role-model in Malaysia despite the fast cars, gangsters and Ombak Rindu. He’s seen as a versatile and well-known actor here in Malaysia and fans love him for his strong, persistent and yet humorous persona.

Strong, yes — seen his muscles?

Persistent? We know that Ant-Man believes that the littlest of things can make a big difference, and like Ant-Man, Aaron’s persistence in the film industry seemed to have gotten him places.

3. In Ant-Man, Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang (a.k.a Ant-Man), a good hearted man — hero in a suit that can shrink into the size of an ant.

DSC00027(LR)We know that Paul Rudd is not really the buffest of choices for the role, but he does have the charm. On the other hand, Aaron Aziz is known for his built body, charm, and charisma, and maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to see him in a tight suit after all.

In hopes of appointing our local celebrity, Aaron Aziz, Walt Disney Studios aim to bring the Ant-Man character and action closer to Malaysians.

“We are constantly looking for creative ways to connect and engage with our fans. With Aaron Aziz as the celebrity ambassador and the social media campaign for Marvel’s Ant-Man, we hope Malaysian fans will feel excited and inspired by the movie’s thrilling yet heartwarming plot and charismatic super hero,” said Amit Malhotra, General Manager of Studio Entertaiment at The Walt Disney Company, Southeast Asia.

In line with the theme of the movie, a series of videos featuring Aaron Aziz as our local celebrity ambassador for Marvel’s Ant-Man have been created. These have been rolling out since the 7th of July with specified hashtags #AntManMY and #AntManME to highlight second chances and redemption, all done to inspire the fans.

To further hype the whole thing up, there will be a contest to give fans a chance to catch Ant-Man with Aaron Aziz at the gala preview screening on the 15th of July at Golden Screen Cinemas, 1Utama.
