Malaysia Fashion Week Debut In Paris

by Naressa KhanOctober 7, 2014

There isn’t much that’s making us Malaysians proud lately but if there’s one thing that is, it would be Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW). A collaborative effort between Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Stylo International, the event recently unveiled in Paris, France, as part of the World Fashion Week (WFW).

Employing the theme “Next Fashion Destination”, the MFW 2014 saw the participation of eminent local names the likes of Datuk Jimmy Choo, Joe Chia and Fairuz Ramdan alongside other designers from other countries. More than 100 nations participated at the WFW, which serves as a new global fashion platform that connects the media industry, international buyers and general consumers together.

Aside from the connectivity and the showcase of numerous talents in fashion designing, awards were also given to honor international advocates of fashion whose work have globally impacted the fashion industry. To the joy of many Malaysians back home, Datuk Choo had received the World Fashion Organisation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

From October 17 to 22, both Malaysian and foreign fashion distributors will be brought down to Kuala Lumpur for Fashion, Art, Cosmetics, Interiors and Textile, a trade exhibition that will extend MFW with even more fashion shows and gala events.

Morally backed by the International Trade and Industry Ministry, MFW poses as the first international-level trade fashion event that’s organised by a government agency (MATRADE) with the help of the partners they have found in the country’s private sector as well as other multinational collaborators. Its main pillars include Malaysia Fashion Showcase (MFS), Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (MBSAFW) and World Fashion Week collaborations during the Paris Fashion Week season.
