Joanna Bessey updates hit family musical ‘Aladdin’ in time for holiday season

by The Daily SeniNovember 14, 2016

SCHOOL holiday’s coming up, so Enfiniti Academy of Musical Theatre and Entertainment Arts (ENACT) returns with another round of Aladdin: The Musical. Only this time, the showcase packs in even more magic with the addition of new cast members while still maintaining favourites from last season. Renamed Aladdin: Reloaded, director Joanna Bessey has promised updated songs, new choreography, fresh jokes, and a whole lot of laughs.

Aladdin: Reloaded aims to serve mischief and mayhem through its unique story, characters, and magic. These familiar faces return like never before: Peter David, Tria Aziz, and Rashid Salleh are sorcerer Abanazar, the Genie of the Ring, and The Widow Twankee respectively, while Aladdin himself will be portrayed by Jayson Phuah.

Joanna claimed that the upcoming re-staging, done as musical pantomime comedy, is meant to welcome new talents into the performing arts scene. The genre’s broad appeal and accessibility especially to families also factored into the decision.

Based on the original tale of Aladdin, the musical hopes to get audiences scratching their heads in awe and wonder through a magic carpet ride. Witness the evil Abanazar as he embarks on a journey to find the genie of the ring. Will he succeed in his evil mission? Luckily, Aladdin, along with his brother Wishee Washee, and his mother, the Widow Twanky, are there to save the land!

Expect pop culture references, wacky dancing, slapstick jokes, and a whole lot of goofiness from the show. There will also be a chance for audiences to interact with characters and become part of the play.

ENACT, which runs under Enfiniti Vision Media, is an academy dedicated to performing arts for all ages. Featuring classes and workshops from storytelling to performing, the academy also has high-profile patrons including actors Ramin Karimloo and Stephen Rahman-Hughes.

Aladdin Reloaded happens from 2 – 11 December 2016, so bring the kids along and hopefully get them into theatre. Follow the  for more info!
