The 10th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) was held from 1-6 December at Taman Budaya, Yogyakarta. Three local films — Liew Seng Tat‘s Lelaki Harapan Dunia, Edmund Yeo‘s River of Exploding Durians and Gavin Yap‘s The Incredibly Strange Tale of the Man Who Lost His Love but Bought it Back with a Packet of Duck Rice were selected for the festival.
Among the three films, two were nominated for awards. River of Exploding Durians was nominated under the Asian Feature section while Gavin Yap’s directorial effort competed in the Light of Asia segment, which was dedicated to short films.
Beating 14 other short films from Iran, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and Thailand, The Incredibly Strange Tale of the Man Who Lost His Love but Bought it Back with a Packet of Duck Rice won the Blencong Award under the Light Of Asia category.
The Doghouse73 production stars veteran theatre actor Thor Kah Hong, actress Louisa Chong and comedian Phoon Chi Ho and tells the tale of a man who lost his wife and begins to find friendship with a woman cab driver and her house mate.
Other winners at JAFF include Remton Zuasola‘s one-take Swap and Joko Anwar‘s A Copy of My Mind.
