Fixi To Include “Untuk Pembaca Matang” Label On All Future Publications In Response To Inane Attacks From Less-Discerning Folks

by Deric EctAugust 21, 2015

With the publication of Fahmi Mustaffa‘s Laknat, local publisher Fixi issued a statement today informing followers that all their publications from now on will feature a label stating “Untuk Pembaca Matang“.

Fixi’s rationale was that the brand did not want less-matured audiences approaching their content. This came about after negative response from quarters of the local Malay community to P. Ramlee‘s Sitora Harimau Jadian as well as literature classic Hikayat Raja Babi.

According to a note posted on their Facebook page, Fixi insisted that maturity has nothing to do with age, expressing that there are 14 year olds who have read AWAN and resonated with its themes, while older folks have made a fuss over some lines which deal with the act of kissing.

Fixi’s sarcastic rant has over 900 Facebook likes as well as 190 shares, amassed within five hours of being published.

Hoping to divert less-intelligent readers away from the brand, Fixi recommended that those who disagree with their content to go and look for the sort of romance novels which often get turned into local soap operas.

In saying all this, Fixi also acknowledged the possibility that the “Untuk Pembaca Matang” label could scare off merchants and also informed their followers of their plans in dealing with such scenarios. Among these are selling publishing rights to Indonesia or releasing material for free via Wattpad.

The publishing company has consistently racked up entries on the top of Malaysian bestsellers lists with local writing. Founded in 2011 by local filmmaker and author Amir Muhammad, Fixi has only gotten from strength to strength. They’ve recently opened their first physical store, Kedai Fixi, in Jaya Shopping Centre. The store only carries books; there are no stationery or merchandise sold in the space.

Top 5 Burns from Fixi’s Announcement Today

#1

Jika anda ketiadaan bahan membaca, anda disyorkan menyokong makcik-makcik novelis chinta yang sedang panas sebab jualan mereka semakin merundum sejak dua-tiga tahun lepas.

Jika anda rasa anda tak bersedia, baca saja buku lain. Atau main Candy Crush. Tiada paksaan.

#5

Kedai Fixi can be found at Lot 4.35-4.36 Level 4, Jaya Shopping Centre, Jalan 14/17, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. For details, visit their Facebook page or call 013-224 4606! Featured image obtained from Fixi’s Facebook page.
