DPAC Dance Company’s Annual Production presents ‘DUA Creations’

by Tania KnuttAugust 6, 2015

DUA Creations, Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) Dance Company‘s annual production for 2015 presents their latest dual contemporary dance works from both local choreographer and dancer Lee Ren Xin as well as Korean resident choreographer Lee Dong-Won in collaboration with DPAC Dance Company’s Artistic Director, Wong Jyh Shyong (JS).

In addition to the performers, these guys will also be bringing in Loke Soh Kim as a special guest dancer.

After a month-long residency with Malaysia’s DPAC Dance Company, the team of dancers will excitingly conclude their affairs via three performances of engaging contemporary dance which is set to run from the 11th to the 13th of September at Black Box, DPAC. As an added bonus, workshops and post-show talks with the artist themselves will also be featured on selected days.

Yours, with Flowers, one of three pieces choreographed by Ren Xin is a piece which explores the attachment and detachment to an object, a fantasy, a belief, an identity, or a relation.

This attachment and detachment may contain passion, phobia, rejection, and indifference – these human things give birth to Yours, with Flowers.

Meanwhile, Lee Dong-Won’s Cognition, a collaborative duet with Wong Jyh Shyong, came about after organisers watched him in an opening performance at the Borak Arts Series conference just last year under the Korea-Malaysia Connection Programme. Cognition aims to develop trans-cultural dialogue which excavates both artistic practices as well as body movements.

Lee Dong-Won got his recognition when he received the Best Choreographer award for his work Memory Test at the 17th Young Choreographer Exhibition by The Reviewer.

There will also be a workshop by Lee Dong-Won himself. As someone who advocates his expressive Korean movements, he hopes to apply impromptu actions and experiments while exploring the connection between movements and other mediums with this workshop.
