FOR her latest single “Siapa Diriku”, popular soap actress Ayda Jebat has decided to emulate Meghan Trainor in more ways than one would traditionally imagine. The song, a slice of uptempo pop with strong 60s influence, brings to mind the sound currently keeping Meghan Trainor on airwaves.
The music video however, is a whole different story.
Aside from boasting art direction and colour schemes strongly reminiscent of Meghan’s “All About That Bass” and “Lips Are Movin“, they’ve even gone through the trouble of finding a plus-sized model to bring whatever Tyler Moffat brought to the table visually.
Ayda managed to rope in Michael Ang — director of TV series M.A.I.D. which starred Ayda herself alongside Zul Ariffin — for a cameo in “Siapa Diriku”. In the video, Michael plays an angry director who throws a fit at his underaged crew.
It has to be mentioned that the beginning of “Siapa Diriku” also bears a striking resemblance to Meghan Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband“.
Both videos start with a ringing sound — Meghan’s from a bicycle, Ayda’s from her mobile phone — and proceeds to showcase filtered vocals for a nostalgic effect just before launching into the first verse.
We don’t want to accuse Ayda of imitation, but the evidence aren’t really on her side. Why didn’t you come up with an entirely different concept, Ayda? Did they force you to do it?
Released on Youtube on the 15th of September, the video to “Siapa Diriku” was executed by production team theMalaya. The song is available on the M.A.I.D. soundtrack.
