Al Jafree Md Yusop Launches Platform For More Radical And Critical Film Discussion

by Wendi SiaSeptember 29, 2015

Mad about films but have no idea where to geek out about them? Come join us for Bual Filem next time it happens!

Bual Filem is an initiative by filmmaker Al Jafree Md Yusop, whose credits include co-writing Paloh and P. Ramlee the Musical. His aim with this project is to create healthy dialogue as well as give cinephiles a platform for more radical and critical discussion on film.

The first session of Bual Filem saw the screening of Al Jafree’s own directorial debut, telemovie . Taking place last Saturday at Rumah Titi, the session even lured the likes of film critic and historian, Hassan Muthalib, actor Azman Hassan, cinematographer Mad Nor Kassim, and filmmaker Imri Nasution.

Attendees were treated to a director’s cut version of Melur vs Rajawali before proceeding to a discussion about the film — its hits and misses and what happened behind the scenes — followed by a sharing session about the global and local film industry, and its history and theories.

Suffice to say, Bual Filem is a great space to enrich your minds, plus you also get to network with like-minded individuals. When we were present, we noticed that it brought together film addicts and industry players alike.

Al Jafree will continuing his effort with the launch of Komuniti Filem Titiwangsa (KOMFIT) and its next programme will be Bual Filem 2: Senandung Malam Film Appreciation (Al Jafree co-wrote and co-directed Senandung Malam with Dain Said). Meanwhile, his next film project will be Melur Vs Rajawali 2 , and it will mark his directorial debut for a feature-length film.

Keep an eye out on our  to find out when the next Bual Filem session is happening!
