Keeping Track with…Zamaera: Being ‘Sisters’ with SZA & defining the sound of Malaysian hip hop

Malaysian rapper, Zamaera, has been in the scene as an R&B feature and a lowkey rapper for quite a while, but ever since releasing her first single Helly Kelly last year, she’s been defying stereotypes of women & hip hop – wanting to set ablaze a trail for more women to become rappers in the industry too. She’ll be performing in Good Vibes Festival this weekend (21 – 22 July) alongside other great international acts like SZA & Lorde, and also awesome local acts such as Noh Salleh, Altimet and more!

Documenting Kuala: Telling human stories

Photography is one of the most recent visual art forms in human history. It is the bridge between traditional visual arts – consisting of paintings, sculptures and anything of its ilk – to the vast world of film-making. All of them are often used to tell human stories – people who’ve achieved greatness, recapturing momentous events and the zeitgeists of history. Farhan Akmal and his friend Shahrul created Documenting Kuala to carry on this tradition of stories – focusing on those without a voice of their own, marginalised by the greater society.

Doesn’t matter if you were exposed to him through alextbh or just happened to be well-versed about the Indonesian R&B scene, Emir Hermono has been the purveyor of emotional electro-soul since 2016, crossing the straits and collaborating with Malaysian and Indonesian artists. In honor of his upcoming performance at Good Vibes Festival again this year (21 – 22 July), we got to talk to Emir about his love for Matchbox Twenty, his time as a university lecturer or how the Papua scene has made him who he is today.

‘Kandang, ‘Kathak’, and ‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown’ Won Best of 2017 Award at the 15th BOH Cameronian

ON THE 24th JUNE 2018, BOH Plantations and Kakiseni announced the recipients of the 15th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (15BCAA) (or The Cammies) at Hilton Kuala Lumpur, including the prestigious Best of 2017 and the Category Awards for artistic excellence. A localized adaptation of a popular dystopia, a mystical dance piece and a musical based on the Peanuts cartoon won the Best of 2017 categories.
