The Daily Seni has received word that actor Ramli Hassan has passed away in Sydney earlier today due to complications arising from cancer. He was 58 at the time of his death.
The news has come unexpectedly, as not many people were aware of Ramli’s health condition.
Born on the 31st of December 1956, the actor has enjoyed a long and successful career in film. He was best known for his work on Anna & The King, The Red Kebaya and Histeria. He also made appearances in the Netflix original series Marco Polo.
His role in The Red Kebaya garnered him a Best Actor nomination at the 20th Festival Filem Malaysia back in 2007.
Ramli Hassan’s final role will be in Nota, the upcoming Yasu Tanaka-directed feature film set in Bako National Park. He will play a boatman named Jemat in the psychological thriller, alongside Maya Karin and Hans Isaac.
Nota will be released in Malaysian cinemas on the 13th of August. It will also be screened at the Marché du Film in Cannes on May 14th.
