SGIFF: Audience Choice Award Among Tweaks To 26th Edition

by The Daily SeniOctober 22, 2015

RUNNING for the second consecutive year after a three-year hiatus in 2010, the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) will this year take audience votes into account for their brand new Audience Choice Award.

As reported in The Straits Times yesterday, the new Audience Choice Award winner will also be shown on the last day of the festival. Instead of opting for a traditional ‘closing film’ to mark an end to this year’s edition, the festival will be screening  its award winners.

Other changes this year include scheduling changes to allow festivalgoers more time to get to screenings, as well as the addition of the National Gallery Singapore to its list of venues.

Established in 1987, the film festival is the largest and longest-running film event in Singapore. It was brought out of its hiatus last year by a brand new team which revamped and tweaked the festival to gain a bigger audience.

The festival has always focused on Asian output, but Variety reports that this year’s installment pays particular attention to Southeast Asian cinema. Two Malaysian films will be screening this year, namely Namewee‘s Banglasia and Virginia Kennedy short-film Thread.

Held from 26 November – 6 December, the 26th Singapore International Film Festival will screen 146 features and short films from over 50 countries.
