myBurgerLab, Erma Fatima and Faizal Tahir among entities shortlisted for volunteerism award, voting open to public now!
LAST month, iM4U‘s one-of-a-kind Volunteer Malaysia Awards (VMA) allowed the public to submit their choices for the nation’s top volunteers. Fast forward several weeks, and voting is now open for the People’s Choice Award!
In case you missed out on last month’s coverage, the first ever VMA is a ceremony created to honour, celebrate and pay tribute to the members of society who inspire and promote the spirit of volunteerism. It will see awards handed out in twelve unique categories after deliberation from a panel of jury, but the People’s Choice Award will be decided upon by audience votes.
And that’s where you come in!
Twenty-nine volunteer projects have been shortlisted for the award. Listed under the Best Volunteer Initiative category, each were handpicked for demonstrating best practices that were executed at a minimum cost with high impact.
One popular entry on the list has our approval: burger joint myBurgerLab attempted to build a home for an indigenous family in Kampung Serendah while also educating its customers on the realities of Orang Asli communities.
The mBL Epic Build project collected approximately RM70,000 from the public in order to put together all the materials and logistics involved in building a house with the help of 35 volunteers who managed to build the home in only three days!
Elsewhere, NGO initiative Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled (GOLD) from the Association of the Learning Disabilities reaches out to the Learning Disabilities’ (LD) community by providing a platform to nurture their skills and abilities at school and work with specially designed programmes.
GOLD achieves its goals through projects such as Kindness Cookies, a cookie-baking and selling initiative which generates income utilising GOLD’s participants, and Being Differently Abled, a book which hopes to garner public interest for the plight of people with learning disabilities.
The public will also be able to vote for the Best Volunteer Initiative by Personality Award where they can choose from Malaysia’s most talented and kind-hearted, namely Mizz Nina, Siti Nurhaliza and Datuk K, Erma Fatima, Faizal Tahir, and Hideaki Lim. All five have conducted projects ranging from feeding the homeless to raising funds for flood victims.
But all these awards are not just for those in the limelight — iM4U volunteers who have volunteered a certain amount of hours within a year will receive the Volunteer Malaysia Award for Bronze, Silver or Gold achievement. Any volunteer initiative would not be made possible without the help of the common men, women, boys and girls who have contributed to their community without expecting anything in return.
“It is only right that we acknowledge and award our volunteers for their hard work and commitment,” stated iM4U chief executive officer Rudy Malik.
iM4U Brand Management Group director Tan Shyue Wern additionally mentioned that the VMA also aims to motivate them to continue volunteering while inspiring the rest to do the same, be it youth or the masses.
Other awards that will be presented include Lifetime Achievement Award, Superelawan of The Year, Special Jury Award, Best Social Media Campaign for A Volunteer Initiative and iM4U FM Award for Best Humanitarian Song, of which winners are chosen by a panel of notable jury.
The VMA dinner and awards presentation ceremony will be held on 9 December 2016 at Grand Lagoon Ballroom, Level 15, Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. To register your vote, make sure to head over to iM4U before 2 December 2016.
